Farm & Foodservice Contract Worker’s Co-op

A new opportunity for people who want to be part of re-creating a local food system.

 

The Worker’s Co-op is part of Vancouver Island Heritage Foodservice Co-op.  Leadership for the development of the co-op comes from Nanaimo Association for Community Living.  NACL is currently sponsoring a Workforce Development Strategy project to help situate labour and training needs.  A committee of agencies has formed a Workforce Development Committee. Any agencies interested in participating are welcome.  It will be a chance to learn about the worker co-op model, which is particularly useful as a way to organize service workers while allowing the workers to have a voice and control of their working environment.

Recruitment for people interested in becoming part of the co-op will begin in mid April 2008. 

Jobs will be part time, full time and be designed in a career path process.  Job sites will include farms, greenhouses, warehouse, food processing facilities etc.
